Caring for your new hair extensions

Our brand specialises in providing all customers with 100% human hair that still has the natural hair cuticle attached & facing a downwards direction.

With this in mind - hair extensions require the same TLC as your natural hair, plus a little extra - the easiest way to think about ALL hair extensions is that they are "Permanently Dehydrated" as the hair is no longer attached to your scalp & has no way to receive all those healthy oils your scalp provides for your natural hair! As a result we need to consistently hydrate the hair to ensure your hair extensions are easy to manage & last their expected lifespan.

We recommend using all moisturising/hydrating shampoos, conditioners, hair masks/leave-in treatments & Argan oils. If you or your client ever need haircare suggestions or advice our friendly team are here & happy to help you & discuss further. 

We recommends clients and stylist never use any products that includes ingredients such as Protein, Keratin, Sulphate, or high level of alcohols as these types of ingredients while hair extensions are installed, as it can potentially lead to matting, knotting, breakage &/or cut the lifespan of your hair extensions.

HAIR EXTENSION AFTERCARE:

• Use only extension-safe haircare. Avoid products containing protein, sulphates, tea tree oil, or high alcohol content.
• For the first 1–2 weeks, avoid high/tight ponytails or buns to prevent tension on natural hair.
• Sleep with hair in a low, loose plait.
• Brush 2–3 times daily using an House of Remy Hair Extensions brush.
• Apply a ‘hair extension safe’ argan oil or moisturiser to mid-lengths and ends 1–2 times daily.
• Avoid alcohol base products near the scalp or bonds of extensions at all times.
• Never leave your hair wet or to ‘air-dry’
• Avoid contact with sunscreen, chlorine, salt water, hard water, and tanning products. If exposed, rinse thoroughly immediately, followed by 2-3 shampoo’s and condition (using hair extensions safe products only)
• Remove & reapply your hair extensions every 6–8 weeks to maintain hair health & prevent damage to your natural hair
• Your hair extensions are designed to fade in colour over time (similar to your natural hair) Depending on shade, lifestyle, and aftercare. For professional colouring: Use only toner or semi-permanent colour ranges. Do not use bleach, high-lift, permanent colour, or use high-strength peroxide.

Do's & Don't Hair Extensions Guide 

• Do not use products containing ingredients such as Sulphate, Protein, Tea Tree Oil or High levels of Alcohol content (this includes colours & toning shampoo's) as this will cut the lifespan of your hair extensions 
• Do not sleep with wet hair - our natural hair is weaker when wet, which is more likely to damage, knot or tangle your hair
• NEVER leave your hair extensions to "dry naturally", always blow-dry to a minimum of 80% dry
• Do not use oils or products containing citrus or tea tree near your scalp area as this can encourage slippage
• Do not wash your hair for 48-72 hours after having your hair extensions applied
• Do not colour or tone your hair while hair extensions are installed, if you do, you do so at your own risk, as it may affect the bond of the extensions, causing them to slip & discolour
• Do not bleach hair extensions, only semi- permanent colours or toners can be used (we recommend visiting a professional salon for all hair extension colour services)

Application Guidelines

All permanent hair extension methods must be applied by an educated hair extension specialist that is specifically trained in the method purchased and applied. 

APPLICATION PREPARATION GUIDE: (Professional use only)

• Before application, shampoo hair 2–3 times with a deep cleansing shampoo (Do not use shampoo products containing deep moisture, essential oils or tea tree)
• Do not use conditioner on clients hair after ‘deep cleansing’ shampoo
• Thoroughly blow-dry clients hair (ensure it is 100% dry before installation) 
• Avoid all leave-in & styling products before or after blowdry, a light heat protectant spray may be applied to mid-lengths and ends only, avoiding the clients roots & first two inches of hair.(Do not use any heat protector products containing deep moisture, essential oils or tea tree)

• Straighten clients natural hair before starting application

• Following installation, hair extensions should be cut and blended to seamlessly connect with the client’s natural hair by a trained professional

MAINTENANCE & REAPPLICATION GUIDE:

• After application, the clients natural hair & extensions must to stay 100% dry for 48–72 hours. Client must strictly avoid wetting/washing their hair, swimming, spas, saunas, steam rooms, and excessive sweating during this period.

• A client or hairdresser should never use any haircare products containing ingredients such as: Protein (Keratin), Sulphate or high level alcohol on the hair extensions &/or clients natural hair while wearing hair extensions.

• Each hair extension bundle purchased is custom-colour during manufacturing (before attaching the hair to the extension bonds). This provides rich & consistent colour ranges. Our shades are designed to behave & fade naturally over time (similar to our own hair). It is expected that hair extension may fade or loose their tone overtime. Therefore requiring a toner or colour refresh, this should always be done by a trained professional, during salon appointments only. • Use only semi permanent colour (or a weaker formula) when colouring any type of human hair extensions. Bleach, high lifts, high level peroxide or permanent colour ranges should never be used on any type of hair extensions. 

• We recommend waiting 24 hours(minimum) after any high-lift, bleach, or high-peroxide colour service on a clients natural hair before applying hair extensions. This time allows for the natural hair settle, which helps to minimise any risk of extension slippage or compromising the natural hair. Hair extension applications performed alongside or immediately after colour services are undertaken at the purchaser's own risk.
